It is with deep sorrow and sadness that the medical community remembers an outstanding colleague. On January 12, 2026, Yakov Borisovich Mirkin, a brilliant Russian urologist, pioneering scientist, and director of Riviera Biotech, passed away. Today, February 20, we honor his memory and bow our heads before his great legacy. This is a loss that cannot be replaced: he was a creator whose heart ached for every patient, and whose mind always sought ways to overcome human suffering.

Rescue Mission: Urolaif and EasyDream
The Urolaif project became the culmination of his commitment to patient needs. Yakov Borisovich not only created a brand; he quietly revolutionized the treatment of interstitial cystitis. He often said, "Our goal is not simply to treat disease, but to restore the integrity of what has been destroyed and restore people's right to a pain-free life." These words became the motto of his work on medications to protect the bladder mucosa.
His scientific research knew no rest. One of his most recent achievements was the development of "EasyDream," an innovative, sustained-release melatonin preparation. Yakov Borisovich understood that healing was impossible without deep sleep and pain relief, and he poured all his research passion into a means of restoring peace.
Innovator and Advocate: Cryoablation and ACPP
Yakov Borisovich always strived to conquer pain. That's why he founded the Association of Chronic Pelvic Pain Specialists (ACPP). He pioneered complex techniques, including cryoablation of the pudendal nerves and the use of cold in andrology.
Introducing cryoablation for the treatment of premature ejaculation, he emphasized: "We don't simply act on nerve endings with cold—we restore to men the control over their bodies and the confidence that nature had robbed them of." Thanks to his courage and dozens of patents, hundreds of people have regained the harmony they thought they had lost.
Worldwide Recognition and Legacy
A brilliant lecturer whose voice resonated at major congresses—the ROW, EAU, AUA, and ICS—he was always at the forefront of science. He was respected by colleagues worldwide for his integrity, keen intellect, and willingness to share his knowledge.
For us, he will remain not only a wise mentor but also a man of amazing generosity. Yakov Borisovich passed away at the pinnacle of his research, leaving us with a great mission—to continue his work. His ideas and preparations will continue to heal people, meaning he will remain with us forever.
Blessed memory to the great Doctor and Man.
